Ballarat Tooth Whitening
Bleaching can be a great way to lighten up your smile. There can be many reasons for discoloration, with the most common culprits being tea, wine and coffee. Sometimes, your teeth may be naturally a darker shade than you would like. Bleaching can be a predictable and easy way to improve their look.
There are a variety of ways to bleach your teeth. At Dr Virginia Williams’s Dental Practice, we believe in treatments that are long lasting, effective and cost efficient. So when it comes to teeth whitening, all scientific evidence points to professionally supervised, at-home bleaching to provide the best results. The greatest advantage for this is that you are always in control of how light your teeth become. Of course, we will also oversee the process to ensure that you are achieving the best possible outcome.
One of the pitfalls of over-the-counter products is the lack of a dental assessment. It is important to have us check your teeth prior to bleaching. Some staining can be removed more simply with a clean, while defects will not respond at all to bleaching. Fillings may have to be replaced to match your new teeth. There are a myriad of situations that require assessment for the most optimal outcome. Furthermore, these products are of lower concentration and are generally not strong enough to provide any appreciable change in colour. The only predictable thing about over-the-counter products is how unpredictable they can be.
In-office, light-activated bleaching has also been touted as a quick fix. However, it is complicated by significant sensitivity issues and usually does not produce a lasting outcome. In any case, in-office, light-activated bleaching is followed by a period of at-home bleaching, negating the point of a one-visit bleaching process.
So at Dr Virginia Williams’s Dental Practice, we are happy to provide you with at-home bleaching: what has been scientifically backed as the best whitening procedure available in the market today.
What can I expect?
We provide you with custom-made bleaching trays that mould specifically to your teeth, and a set of bleaching gels to take home.
Every night, a small amount of gel is applied to your bleaching tray, and the tray is inserted into your mouth like a mouthguard would be. The tray is then left in your mouth for a certain amount of time, and the process repeated over several weeks until your desired colour is achieved.
