Smile makeover procedures are routinely carried out at our dental clinic. While it undoubtedly improves the appearance of your smile, the main benefit that comes about is the improvement in confidence. Earlier you may have felt embarrassed about your smile and that would have invariably affected the way you interacted with others, but after a smile makeover, you will have nothing to be embarrassed about.
The following are the most popular types of cosmetic procedures. If you have any other problem not covered below, get in touch with us for a consultation, and we can advise you on the best way ahead.
Teeth whitening
This is a highly popular procedure because it can quickly and effectively improve your smile. A bright white smile is attractive – that is why celebrity smiles always look so special. Have you ever seen an attractive celebrity with yellow teeth? No. A white smile significantly adds to your appearance.
The teeth whitening procedure can be done quickly at our clinic. Tartar, plaque and other debris are first removed from the teeth surface. Then bleach is applied on the teeth to safely whiten the colour. The stains and yellowing that have accrued from years of food habits, smoking etc. can be reversed quickly.
Dental veneers
Dental veneers are very thin, custom-made shells that are made of porcelain or resin. They cover the front surface of the teeth and can be made in exactly the colour of your natural teeth. Veneers are used to hide stubborn stains, chips, or cracks in the teeth.
The veneering process involves removing about half mm enamel from the surface of the teeth. This is done so the veneers fit in snugly to the teeth without jutting out. After the enamel is removed, the porcelain shells are bonded to the teeth surface. Veneers can dramatically alter the colour, shape, and appearance of your teeth, and the procedure is minimally invasive.
Dental crowns
Crowns are also called caps, and they are mostly used to replaced teeth that are lost to decay or damage. Cosmetic crowns can be used to fix imperfections of the teeth and enhance smile. At the same time, they also restore functionality to teeth that are damaged.
Porcelain is generally used for making crowns because it mimics the natural appearance to such an extent that it is impossible to tell a crown apart from natural teeth. First, the tooth is shaped to receive the crown. Any decay or damage will have to be treated before this stage. After the tooth is shaped, we take an impression of your mouth and send it off to the lab. At the lab, the crown is prepared to match the specific dimensions of your prepared tooth and mouth exactly.
Inlays and onlays
These are very popular cosmetic procedures for the teeth. They are also called indirect fillings and are made in a lab. Inlays or onlays are generally used when there isn’t enough structure of the tooth left to support the usual tooth filling material. If the tooth cusps are not damaged, then the inlay can be placed directly on the tooth surface. If a large portion of the tooth is damaged, an onlay may be used to cover the entire surface of the tooth.
Both inlays and onlays are made in a lab. Composite resin is used to prepare it, and it is attached to the surface of the tooth using strong adhesive dental cement. They not only improve the aesthetic appearance of teeth, but also restore the functionality.
