Dental Veneers Ballarat
Occasionally, teeth can be strong and healthy but still have small blemishes or imperfections that prevent you from having a truly beautiful smile. Veneers are a great alternative to crowns for covering up many deficiencies.
Veneers are thin shells of ceramic that cover the front faces of teeth to mask any underlying problems. They are also useful for minor modifications to your teeth’s shape, position, and colour. Often, they are provided in sets to provide a consistent look to your smile.
What can I expect?
Veneers are often proposed as the cure for all cosmetic problems. In some situations, a dental crown would be more suitable, or even a short course of orthodontics. At Dr. Virginia Williams’s Dental Practice, we will first provide you with an in-depth discussion regarding the potential for veneers or other treatments to provide you with the best smile possible.
Once we have decided on veneers, it generally takes several appointments:
- Preparation: our dentist will modify a thin layer of the tooth to prepare it to receive a veneer. There is often no need for anaesthetic at this stage. In many cases, no temporary veneer is required but some sensitivity and roughness may be experienced.
- Impressions: a mould is taken off your teeth and sent to a laboratory for fabrication, taking into account colour and desired shape. This can take up to two weeks.
- Insertion: the dental crown or bridge is received from the laboratory. We will check the fit, and then place it on your tooth with specific dental adhesives.
Veneers are much stronger than conventional dental restorations and even than some dental crowns. While they are also resistant to staining, like all teeth, they should be cared for with regular brushing and flossing and with the use of a mouthguard if you are playing contact sports.
There is a trend towards cost cutting by some dental practices by having their components manufactured overseas. However, you can rest assured that all components for veneers used in Dr Virginia Williams’s Dental Practice are sourced from either local Ballarat providers or those in Melbourne where necessary. We appreciate the peace of mind, accountability and quality assurance that comes with Australian standards as much as our patients do.
Veneers are a great tool in our practice in providing beautiful smiles. However, each situation is unique and requires careful assessment by a dentist prior to commencement. If you would like to know if veneers can help you, please make an appointment with us on (03) 5331 9285.
